Why another community theatre group?
Because our mission is something that we firmly stand behind - engaging, inspiring, challenging, educating, and empowering artists and audiences alike. We feel so strongly about the principles and values in our mission statement that we wanted to make sure that we had an ongoing opportunity to share them with all of you, every fall, winter, spring, and summer.
Our “Big Vision” is to create a compassionate, inclusive environment where all South Shore residents empower each other to reach their full potential without gossip, negativity, or putting others down to get ahead. SSTW is a place where people just “get you.” We speak your language and encourage you to keep doing what you do best.
We truly believe that theatre can impact a community, and can change lives. And so, we invite you to take that journey with us and experience it for yourself, whether you're onstage, offstage, or backstage.
What should you expect if you participate in an SSTW show?
If you join us, we promise to provide a supportive, welcoming place where you are accepted without question, where we'll give you the nudge you need to continually improve, and where you are free to explore, and surpass, the limits of what is possible.
In return, all we ask is that you work hard, have fun, and help us maintain a positive, judgment-free zone.
Who We Are
South Shore Theatre Works was founded in the spring of 2016 after several Board members and friends were mourning (and maybe a little relieved over) the end of another community theatre production. While we deconstructed sets, ate too much pizza, and watched younger cast members rock out to "Let It Go," we thought, "Why couldn't we bring an even better experience to the towns around us? Why settle for "good" when we could gather the people and resources we have and be "inspiring" and even "empowering"? How could we bottle up that feeling of unconditional acceptance and support that so many of our fellow cast members, young and old, were feeling during this show, and turn it into an ongoing opportunity and home base for anyone who wishes for it?
And so South Shore Theatre Works was born.
Our Board of Directors and core group of members come from all walks of life with different experiences and ideas about what great theatre means. Some of us once aspired to be on Broadway. Some of us work in healthcare or schools or draft legal contracts. But what is common among all of us is our passion for and dedication to creating an atmosphere where high-quality theatre brings out the very best in each and every person.
